We will be using a bidding system known as ACOL.
Firstly assess your hand by adding up the high cards as follows:
Every Ace is worth |

Example
A hand with two aces and one queen is said to be worth 10 high card points (4+4+2)
A flat hand contains 3 suits with three cards and the fourth suit has 4 cards
The opener is the first person in a partnership to make a bid. The bid made by an opener requires a different point count to his partner who is known as responder. To make an 'opening bid you should have 13 or more points. You should then open as follows:
