Dollar/Thrifty
to merge with Hertz?
Dollar, the only major car rental to be
consistently profitable in USA, is to be taken
over by Hertz. Subject to regulatory approval it
has been agreed that Hertz is to pay $41 per
share. This will be a wonderful fit as Hertz
is strong in car rental to the business travel
community, whereas Dollar/Thrifty are strong in
leisure sales.
The only problem is that Avis have also
expressed an interest in taking over Dollar in an
open letter to Dollar Thrifty and have offered to
beat the price being paid by Hertz. It is not
known whether this is a spoiler tactic by Avis or
taking an opportunity of looking at the Dollar
books, or just a delaying tactic. |
