When collecting your car you will need to show:

  • A full, clean driving licence written in Western (Latin) characters. (Obtain an International driving licence if your licence is Chinese, Arabic or other non Western characters)
  • Your car hire voucher
  • A credit card. This usually has to be a Visa,  Mastercard or an American Express card.  A debit card or cash is acceptable at some locations but not all. 

You will need to sign a rental agreement. Although our rates are fully inclusive of taxes insurance and surcharges there can be local charges such as child seats, one way fees, personal accident insurance, car upgrade, petrol, enhanced roadside assistance or anything else you agree with the car rental company. You must agree and sign for any such items on collection of the car, as part of the contract rental. It is your responsibility to check the paperwork supplied before you sign the contract as any extras you sign for cannot be subsequently refunded. If you see any charges on the paperwork that you have not agreed to then ask a staff member to remove the charge. WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CLAIM A REFUND FOR ITEMS/INSURANCE/UPGRADES SIGNED FOR BY ACCIDENT. Please take a moment to ensure that you fully understand the rental agreement before you sign it.

Before driving off

Before driving off check the condition of the car condition carefully. Check for dents and scratches to the exterior.  Check the condition of tyres. Check the underside. Check the interior seats, carpet, door panels.  If you see any damage report it to the car hire company and see that they note the faults on your contract before you drive off, otherwise you might have to pay for the repair of the damage when you return the vehicle.


NATIONAL RENTAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR RENTALS IN CANADA 

EFFECTIVE - APRIL 1ST , 2010 - March 31ST , 2012

1. CURRENCY:
Canadian Dollar (CAD)

2. MINIMUM AGE: 
Minimum age is twenty-one (21) years of age except where provincial law provides otherwise. In the province of Newfoundland the minimum rental age for all rentals is 25 years old. 

3. UNDERAGE FEE: 
In all provinces the minimum age requirement for all drivers is 21(Except in the Province of Newfoundland, which is 25). A fee of $25.00 CAD per day, per driver is required for drivers between the ages of 21 and 24. This fee is paid locally by the traveler at the time of rental. All drivers must possess a valid driver's license, major credit card, and a prepaid voucher.

4. ADDITIONAL DRIVER FEE: 
An additional driver fee of $10.00 CAD or less per day, per additional driver will apply except where provincial law provides otherwise.

5. ADDITIONAL DRIVER REQUIREMENTS:
All additional drivers must show valid drivers license and a valid credit card issued in their name at the time of rental.

6. INFANT SEAT:
Fees of $6.99 CAD per day, per infant seat with a $50.00 CAD deposit. Infant seats should be requested at time of reservation. 
- Infant Seat : birth up to 20lbs (9.07kgs)
- Child Seat : up to 40lbs (18.14kgs) or 4 years of age
- Booster Seat : 40-80lbs (18.14 - 36.29kgs) or 2-10 years of age

7. SEATBELTS and CHILD RESTRAINT SEATS:
Provincial laws requires the use of seatbelts and child restraint seats. Seatbelts and child restraint seats can save lives. We urge you to use them. To avoid serious injury or even death, use child restraint seats only in the back seat of the vehicle. Older children who do not use child restraint seats should ride properly buckled-up in the back seat. 

8. DRIVING AREAS:
Vehicles can be driven in any provincial in Canada but must be returned to the location from which they were rented or drop-off charges will apply. Vehicles may not be driven into Mexico. Vehicles are allowed One Ways between provinces. No One Way rentals are allowed into the United States unless a pre arranged drop off at one of the approved locations has been made. Certain locations within Canada may restrict vehicles from being driven into the United States. Driving on roads that are not government maintained voids the contract and the Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) coverage. The customer will be fully responsible for any damage done to the car, up to full value of the vehicle.

9. FUEL POLICIES:
Unless fuel is included in the tour package a full tank of gas is purchased at the time of rental. The service is convenient because the renter does not have to worry about taking time to stop and refuel before returning the car (there is no credit for remaining fuel).

10. TAXES AND FEES: 
Unless otherwise stated, rates do not include any Governmentally (Federal, Province, County or City) imposed or authorized taxes or fees, or any airport fees or airport concession recoupment fees which may apply and are the responsibility of the renter.

Legislation or regulations or the cost of fuel may affect National's pricing or procedures. On all inclusive products, National reserves the right, without notice, to (i) charge customers, at the time of rental or thereafter, for the amount of any additional or increased surcharges, fees, taxes or increased fuel costs incurred subsequent to entering into this Agreement, or (ii) increase Client's tax, surcharge or fuel inclusive rates by an amount equivalent to the additional or increased tax, surcharge, or fuel cost subsequent to entering into this Agreement.

11. ONE WAY RENTALS:
All one way rentals must be booked in advance and are subject to availability. One way rentals are restricted to rentals between National Canadian locations. Drop-off charges may apply and are payable at time of rental.

12. METHODS OF PAYMENT: 
Credit Cards - National accepts Visa, MasterCard and American Express. 

13. IDENTIFICIATION (ID) REQUIRED FOR RENTAL: 
Full and Valid Driver's License from country of origin, Passport and credit card in renters name. If the driver's license is in a language other than English, an International Driver's Permit is required in conjunction with the country of residence driver's licence

14. LOSS DAMAGE WAIVER (LDW):
All inclusive rates include LDW, which contractually waives or limits the renters liability for damage to or loss of the vehicle. 
The deductibles for rentals at Alamo Corporate locations are as follows.

- Renters age 21+, the customer is responsible for the first $300 CAD ("Deductible") of damage to the vehicle. 

- Rentals in Whitehorse, & Newfoundland, the customer is responsible for the first $1500 CAD ("Deductible") of damage to the vehicle. 
- Rentals in Jasper, the customer is responsible for the first $1000 CAD deductible of damage to the vehicle. 

Driving on unpaved roads voids the LDW coverage.

15. ADDITIONAL LIABILITY PROTECTION
All inclusive rates provide the renter and authorized drivers up to an aggregate of $1,000,000 CAD, for claims that may be made by others against the renter and authorized drivers for bodily injury/death and or property damage arising out of the use or operation of the rental vehicle. Since this coverage is considered statutory, the limits and priorities of coverage could change depending upon the legal requirements placed on National to operate car rental facilities within Canada. Unless required by law, the inclusive Tour Package does not include Uninsured Motorist Protection and is only available at National corporate locations. 

16. ADDITIONAL ITEMS:
- Roof racks or Ski Racks - Mini Vans and Sporty Utility Vehicles may come equipped with Roof Racked or Ski racks, please request at time of booking if available. These are only available at Vancouver, Calgary. Toronto and Montreal locations. Ski Racks are $7.50 CAD per day.
- "Winterized" cars - Cars can be "winterized". A "winterized" car includes a snow brush/ice scraper, a block heater (select locations), and a ski rack. Request at the time of reservation. 
- Maps - Maps of the local area are available, free of charge. 

17. GPS (GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM) 
GPS navigational systems are available at an additional cost per day and are subject to availability. 

18. GRACE PERIOD
National offers a 29 minute grace period on all rentals. If a customer extends the rental any time after the vehicle has been picked up at the rental location and overstay fee as described above will be accessed. 

19. RESERVATION REQUIREMENTS 
The following information is required at time of reservation for all Voucher and E-Voucher: Voucher ID Number, Number of Voucher days and car type. The number of voucher days and car type on the reservation will be the values used to bill the client. 

20. MILEAGE
Rentals commencing in Whitehorse will include 200 free Kilometers per day/ 1400 free Kilometers per week 

21. VOUCHERS 
If a customer with a prepaid rental returns the vehicle prior to the end of the reserved period, no credit will be given for the unused portion of the Vouchered or E-Voucher. 

22. ROADSIDE PLUS (RSP)
RSP is available in all Canadian locations. RSP is void and of no effect if, at the time of the incident necessitating roadside assistance, the renter (or an Authorized Driver) were in violation of the rental agreement, including, without limitation, the Prohibited Uses and Violations set forth therein. In such cases, roadside assistance will be available, but standard charges may apply. RSP includes the following:
Key replacement: replacement keys or a locksmith will be sent
Flat Tire: if the vehicle's spare tire is installed and serviceable, it will be installed to replace a flat tire. If no inflated spare tire is available, the vehicle will be towed in accordance with the towing provision. 
Towing: Towing charges will be covered at no additional cost should the vehicle be inoperable. 
Jump start: A battery boost will be provided in an attempt to start the vehicle. 
Lockout service: If the keys are locked inside the vehicle, service will be sent to gain entrance. 
Fuel delivery: A limited supply of gasoline will be delivered to the vehicle to enable you to reach the nearest open service station. (Up to three gallons or equivalent liters). 

Rental terms, conditions, deductibles and pricing are subject to change and may vary by location.

All car rentals are subject to legal terms, conditions and pricing procedures of  Alamo Rent A Car in effect at the time of booking.  In the event of subsequent enactment of any laws in Canada, whether federal, state or local, which restricts or prohibits any of those terms, conditions or pricing procedures, Alamo's terms, conditions and prices will be subject to adjustment to the extent necessary to compensate for such restriction or prohibition. 

Cancellation/Amendment Charges
If you need to cancel or amend your booking you must write to us. Preferably this should be by replying to the confirmation email you receive following the booking and the car hire voucher returned.   In the case of cancellation, an amount equivalent to one days rental will be charged. 

Once your rental has started it is not possible to change the duration.  Alamo/National will not refund any unused portion of the rental.  Should you wish to extend your rental this will need to be at local prevailing rates although if you contact us we may be able to extend the rental using our special rates. 

Flight Information
If you are collecting your car at the airport, it is imperative that Cheap-Car-Rental.com is given your correct outbound flight number and estimated arrival time. If this is not known to you at the time of your booking your car, please ensure that you inform us at least 7 days prior to departure. If we are not provided with the correct flight information in good time, no responsibility can be accepted or compensation allowed for a failed rental.

Delivery and Collection
The location of the collection office is given on our rates page and on the booking voucher. This information will include telephone and fax numbers and trading hours.

Deposits
Before the rental agreement is completed a valid major credit card is required and must be in the name of the lead driver. Electron/Solo/Maestro cards are not accepted.

Personal Accident Insurance
This optional insurance may be covered by your holiday insurance (check before you travel). If you require PAI, 
it can be taken out locally on collection of the hire car.

Long Term Rentals
Renters will need to visit a convenient location every 28 days to extend their agreement

Child Seats
Child seats are required by law in some states.  The rental of a child seat is subject to a supplemental charge at prevailing rates and is payable locally

Special Requests
The rental of a child seat /ski racks/ snow tyres / snow chains /GPS must be requested at time of booking.    No guarantee can be made regarding special request availability.

Local Charges
The costs and conditions of all incidental items payable locally are subject to local tax.

Documentation
When you make a booking with Cheap-Car-Rental.com a confirmation screen will give you the details of the booking including our booking reference. An email will then be sent with the same details. A Pre-Paid voucher will be sent within 48 hours of the booking being made. This must be produced at the time of collection of the vehicle. The rental company will not accept your rental unless this is produced. Cheap-Car-Rental.com cannot offer a refund for non-production of the pre-paid voucher.

Driving Licence/Drivers Age
All permitted drivers must be in possession of a of a valid drivers license issued by their respective jurisdictions of residence and must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age, unless otherwise allowed by law.  Drivers that are at least twenty-one (21)years of age, but less than twenty-five (25) years of age will be subject to a supplemental charge at prevailing counter rates unless prohibited by state law.

The rental company reserves the right to refuse a rental to drivers with certain types of endorsements. No refunds will be given for rentals aborted due to non-production of any driving licence or non- disclosed endorsements. Faxed or photocopied licences are not acceptable.

Vehicle Type/Suitability
Cheap-Car-Rental.com cannot guarantee a particular model or make of vehicle The example vehicle shown is for guidance only and the rental companies reserve the right to substitute it with another similar vehicle. If for any reason whatsoever, you are not happy with the condition of your vehicle, please inform the local car hire company immediately and Cheap-Car-Rental.com in writing. Cheap-Car-Rental.com cannot accept any liability where this procedure is not followed.

Insurance Exclusions and Excess
In common with most car rental companies the insurance cover offered by many of our suppliers does not cover tyres, windscreens, the roof, the underside and interior of the car and towing charges. You may sometimes therefore be liable for damage to these items. Contents of the car are covered by clients normal travel insurance policies. No insurance excess is payable except for wilful damage or damage to the car as outlined above. This excludes the state of New York where the first USD $ 100 of each and every claim and the state of Alaska where the excess is USD $ 500.

Provision of Vehicles
Please be aware car hire suppliers can refuse to provide a vehicle to any customer who is, in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such cases, your contract with us becomes void and we will have no further liability to you.

Upgrades
Renters may upgrade to another class of vehicle at the time of rental subject to availability, and renter shall pay the car rental company directly all charges for such upgrade.

General Conditions
All bookings are confirmed when full payment is received and are subject to Cheap-Car-Rental.com terms and conditions. No other terms, conditions and warranties, expressed or implied by law, custom and course of dealing shall form part of any contract between Cheap-Car-Rental.com and clients except for those terms implied by law whose application is mandatory.

Traffic violations
The client is responsible for all fines, parking and driving violations, toll roads, airport access fees etc.

Reservations 
We are not deemed to have accepted a reservation until we have confirmed with our suppliers that a vehicle is available for you and emailed your rental voucher to you. The primary method of communication between Cheap-Car-Rental and you will be email. It is your responsibility to ensure that your email system is capable of receiving and printing email communications from Cheap-Car-Rental in both HTML and plain text formats and that such communications are not rejected by your system or by your internet service provider as "spam". Cheap-Car-Rental will accept no liability whatsoever for losses or failures of any sort that result from you not receiving an email sent by us and our email logs shall be undisputable evidence of the fact that an email was sent.

Period Of Rental 
All hires are calculated and sold in periods of 24 hours. In some countries there is a 3 day minimum period. After the car has been collected, it may be possible to extend at these rates by contacting Cheap-Car-Rental by e-mail or telephone and making further payment as required. If extension is made directly with the local car hire company, the rate may be considerably higher. Missed return deadlines without pre-authorised extension will be charged locally. Please note that no refunds will be made for vehicles returned early.

Booking Conditions
The client acknowledges that in making a booking with Cheap-Car-Rental.com it does so only on the basis of the material contained in this statement. All other statements or representations made by Cheap-Car-Rental.com, its employees, or agents are of no effect unless confirmed by Cheap-Car-Rental.com to the client in writing.

Cheap-Car-Rental.com act as a broker for the hire companies and a contract will be taken with the car hire company supplying the car. Clients will then be subject to the terms and conditions of that contract and the laws of the country where the rental has taken place.

Cheap-Car-Rental.com accepts no responsibility for and shall not be liable in respect of any loss, damage, alterations, delays or changes arising from civil strife, industrial dispute, including air traffic control disputes, terrorist activity, natural and nuclear disaster, fire or adverse weather conditions, unavoidable technical problems with transport, closure or congestion of airports or ports, cancellation of scheduled airlines and financial failure of airlines.

Cheap-Car-Rental.com and the car hire supplier reserves the right to levy any government increase in tax or change in law, which results in additional cost after the confirmation in the reservation.

Cheap-Car-Rental.com's liability to the client for any loss, damage, injury or accident what so ever, whether arising out of negligence, breach of contract, or any other cause shall not exceed twice the invoiced price of rental of the vehicle concerned provided that nothing in this clause shall limit Cheap-Car-Rental.coms liability for death or personal injury caused by its negligence.

Cheap-Car-Rental.com will not be held responsible for anyone driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs, causing willful damage, off road driving or driving without due care and attention. The client will indemnify Cheap-Car-Rental.com against this in respect of such claims.

Complaints

In the unlikely event of a problem or complaint upon your return please send an email to callcentre@cheap-car-rental.com. We can only deal with your complaint if we are notified within 8 weeks of return of your car and you have the relevant paperwork. It is important, therefore, that you keep your copy of the rental agreement.
